1942. Bataille de Guadalcanal. pour prendre un bunker japonais, un bataillon de soldats US est obligé de se lancer dans ce qui a tout l'air d'être une mission suicide. Leurs protestations contre cet ordre cruel et absurde restent vaines. Ils engagent le combat. Contre toute attente, la mission est une réussite. Mais la bataille est loin d'être terminée...
